When you want to automate specific action on your online form submissions, then Form Handlers are your ideal solution.

If you are using Kevy, then our Java Script already pulls in all order and account data. But you may be interested in capturing information or taking action on additional forms. For instance, you may want to create a workflow for all newsletter signups. Or add everyone that fills out your contact-us form to a dedicated list. All of this is possible with form handlers.

Below is everything you will need to know to add form handlers to your webstore (and how to set up an effective campaign):

Best Practices

  • For Strategy:
    • Determine the goal of your online form. Is it to capture emails for promos and offers? Are they opting in to receive announcements for new product lines?
      • Customers want to be in control of the content they receive, so creating highly targeted forms will lead to better conversions.
    • Once you understand the goal of the form, you can begin to develop your action strategy. For best results, ensure the action reflects the purpose of the form. For instance:
      • If it is a new sign-up form, create a Welcome Series campaign.
      • If it is a product announcement form, add them to the corresponding product-announcement list.
  • For Setup:
    • The Email Address field should always be set to required.
      • Email is the unique identifier in Kevy, so email is how we will create or update a contact in the system.
    • If a field is set as required in your website form, you should also make this field required on your form handler mappings. If the required fields do not match, the form submission will fail if a prospect leaves the field blank.
    • The form fields must match exactly with the format you place in your form handler mappings.
      • Remember they are case-sensitive!

Feel ready to create a form for your marketing efforts. Follow the steps below:

Creating A Form Handler in Kevy

  1. Navigate to Marketing > Forms > Form Handlers
  2. Click Create Form Handler
  3. Enter Name
  4. Select a Campaign
  5. Determine the Success Location using the dropdown provided. You can select Specific URL or Referring URL
  6. Determine the Error Location using the dropdown provided. You can select Specific URL or Referring URL to determine where the visitor will be redirected if there is an error with the form.
    • If you select the ‘Referring URL’ then the page will remain the same as the form is hosted on.
    • If you select the ‘Specific URL‘ then you will need type in the URL of where you want the visitor redirected if the form field values are incorrect.
  7. Add and map your form handler fields with the fields of your existing form
    • Click Create Field Mapping
    • Because email is required, we have defaulted this as your first field mapping.
    • Enter the External Field Name with the exact name of the form field as it appears on your form. This is identified by the ‘name=’ attribute of the input tag in the HTML of your original form.
    • Select the Kevy Prospect Field that the external field name should map to using our drop down of available field mappings
  8. Add a Completion Action if desired
  9. Click Create form handler to save

Once this is complete, you will be ready to integrate your Kevy Form Handler with your active online web form. To do this, use the steps provided here: Integrating Form Handlers With Your Online Forms

Taking Action

Completion actions are an extremely effective way of engaging and segmenting every new contact.  This is where automation steps in to make your job far easier. Rather than dumping every new contact onto the same master list, you can automate the entire email series directly from the Form Handler setup page.

Automation is the most powerful tool in your marketing arsenal to be consistently personal while ensuring your are still equipped to scale.  Lets say you want to separate new holiday buyers from your existing buyers in order to create a holiday-specific welcome series. You can simply add action on your form handler to add the new contact to a dedicated list and schedule a series of emails to be sent following the submission. Kevy-form-handlers-marketing

The best part is that you set this up only once, and it runs automatically for every new submission. Suddenly that holiday vacation seems a little more attainable when Kevy is doing the work for you.

If you are interested in automating more of your marketing but still want to keep that personalized touch – just let us know.  We would love to help so you can get back to enjoying the holidays.
